A security officer allegedly shot his wife and son dead in Gurugram following a domestic dispute, police said on Sunday. The incident took place in the early hours of Saturday in the Palam Vihar area, sending shockwaves through the neighbourhood.

According to police, the accused, identified as Rajesh Kumar, a 45-year-old security guard, had a heated argument with his wife, Sunita Devi (40), and their 18-year-old son, Ravi, over family issues. The altercation escalated, and Kumar allegedly opened fire with his licensed revolver.
Residents reported hearing multiple gunshots around 1:30 am. They rushed to the house and found Sunita and Ravi lying in a pool of blood. The victims were immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared them brought dead.
Police Investigation
Senior police officials, including the Deputy Commissioner of Police (West), reached the spot and launched an investigation. Kumar was taken into custody and his revolver seized. Preliminary inquiries suggest that the accused had been under stress due to financial problems and domestic discord.
“We are questioning the accused and recording statements of neighbours. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem,” said a police spokesperson. A case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code has been registered.
Community Reaction
The incident has left the community in shock. Neighbours described the family as quiet and reserved, adding that they had no prior knowledge of any serious dispute. “We never imagined something like this could happen. They seemed like a normal family,” said a neighbour.
Domestic violence cases in Gurugram have seen a slight increase, with police attributing it to rising financial and social pressures. Authorities urge citizens to seek counselling or report conflicts before they escalate.
