In a significant breakthrough against narcotics networks, the Shimla police have successfully arrested an alleged drug trafficker, Vijender Singh, popularly known as Chhotu, near the Nepal border. According to Shimla Assistant Superintendent of Police Abhishek, the accused was apprehended near Vanvasa after evading capture for several days. Vijender Singh alias Chhotu was already facing serious allegations, with three separate cases related to chitta (heroin) trafficking registered against him. Two of these cases were filed at the Chirgaon police station, while one was registered at Rohru. His involvement in these cases underscores his alleged role as a key figure in the local drug trade.

The investigation into this drug network began on February 2, when the Rohru police made a crucial recovery of 83 grams of heroin from two individuals identified as Jashandeep Singh and Dharmapreet Singh at the Mehandli bridge. Both suspects are residents of Punjab. A thorough probe into their supply chain revealed a more extensive and organized drug network operating across state lines.
Subsequently, on February 10, the police arrested three local residents: Ashish Chauhan, Naveen Shetta, and Diwan Chand. These arrests were part of the ongoing efforts to dismantle the network from the ground up.
Uncovering the Supply Chain
During intensive interrogations, investigators identified Jashandeep Singh as a primary supplier operating in the Chirgaon and Rohru areas. He was found to be utilizing a local distributor, later confirmed to be Chhotu. The investigation further uncovered that on February 1, a total of 120 grams of heroin were sourced from Punjab. Out of this quantity, 37 grams were distributed locally, indicating the scale of the operation.
Joint Operation and Arrest
In a collaborative effort, the Shimla police joined forces with their counterparts in Uttarakhand and Nepal for a 48-hour joint operation. This cross-border coordination was instrumental in tracking down and arresting Chhotu on Friday.
