Shop Owner Brutally Assaulted by Biker's Relatives After Pune Road Accident

A shocking incident of violence unfolded in Pune when a 26-year-old shop owner from Kalyaninagar was brutally attacked by two relatives of a motorcyclist he had accidentally injured in a road collision. The assault occurred at a private hospital in Yerawada, where the shop owner had taken the injured biker for medical treatment.

Details of the Road Accident and Subsequent Attack

The accident took place on the Pune-Ahmednagar Road on Saturday morning. According to police reports, the shop owner was driving a car when it collided with a motorcycle, resulting in injuries to the rider. Demonstrating responsibility, the car driver did not flee the scene. Instead, he promptly transported the injured motorcyclist to a nearby private hospital in Yerawada for urgent care.

Senior Inspector Ajum Bagwan of the Yerawada police provided a detailed account: "Earlier in the day, the car driver hit a motorcycle, and the motorcycle rider was injured. Instead of speeding away, the car driver moved the injured motorcycle rider to the hospital for treatment. He also waited for the police personnel to arrive at the hospital, as well as for the relatives of the motorcycle rider."

Violent Confrontation at the Hospital

The situation escalated when two relatives of the injured biker, hailing from Kalwad Vasti, arrived at the hospital. An argument erupted between them and the shop owner, with the relatives holding him accountable for their friend's injuries. Initially, the altercation occurred on the hospital's verandah, but hospital staff intervened due to their disruptive behavior.

The confrontation then moved to an open space on the hospital premises, where the two relatives launched a vicious assault on the shop owner. He was kicked, punched, and attacked with chairs, a belt, and other objects, resulting in significant injuries to his shoulders, chest, and legs.

Police Investigation and Cross-Complaints

Following the assault, both the shop owner and the biker's friend lodged formal complaints against each other with the Yerawada police. This has led to a complex investigation as authorities work to determine the full sequence of events and assign liability.

Inspector Bagwan emphasized the shop owner's initial responsible actions, noting that he not only ensured the biker received medical attention but also cooperated with law enforcement by waiting at the hospital. The attack highlights a distressing case of road rage and vigilante justice, overshadowing what began as a standard traffic incident.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the volatile nature of road accidents and the importance of allowing legal processes to resolve disputes, rather than resorting to violence.
