Six Individuals Apprehended in Ranchi for Witchcraft-Linked Homicide
In a shocking incident rooted in superstition, the police in Ranchi have taken six people into custody for the brutal killing of a 35-year-old woman, identified as Etwari Kumari. The murder occurred on February 1 at Taladih village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Tamar police station in Ranchi district.
Details of the Crime and Investigation
The perpetrators shot the woman dead, and in a desperate attempt to cover up their heinous act, they set her body on fire. Their intention was to make it appear as though the victim had died in an accidental fire from her domestic oven. However, their plan unraveled when the post-mortem examination report conclusively revealed the true cause of death.
On Friday, SP (Ranchi rural) Praveen Pushkar provided crucial insights into the case. He confirmed that a formal case has been registered under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act in connection with this tragic incident.
Arrests and Motive Behind the Murder
A dedicated investigative team was swiftly formed to probe the matter, leading to the arrest of the accused from Taladih and Samlong villages in the district. The individuals taken into custody are Sonaram Lohra, Soma Lohra, Lakhicharan Munda, Kalicharan Munda, Anil Lohra, and the shooter, Vishnu Mahto.
SP Pushkar disclosed that the primary suspect, Sonaram Lohra, who is the victim's brother-in-law, harbored a deep-seated belief that Etwari Kumari was responsible for the deaths of his two sons through witchcraft. Driven by this superstition, he orchestrated a conspiracy to murder her. The police have also successfully seized the pistol used in the commission of this crime.
This case highlights the persistent and dangerous influence of witchcraft-related superstitions in certain regions, underscoring the urgent need for continued legal action and public awareness to combat such beliefs and prevent further tragedies.
