SSB Intercepts Nepali Nationals with Crores in Stolen Jewellery at Indo-Nepal Border
In a significant cross-border operation, the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) apprehended two Nepali youths at the Rupaidiha checkpost on the Indo-Nepal border in Bahraich. The individuals were found in possession of gold and diamond jewellery valued at crores of rupees, which they had allegedly stolen from Hyderabad and were attempting to smuggle into Nepal.
Intelligence-Driven Operation Leads to Arrest
Commandant Ganga Singh Udaawat of the 42nd Battalion of SSB revealed that the operation was initiated based on critical intelligence shared by the inspector of Jubilee Hills police station in Hyderabad. The information indicated that two Nepali nationals had committed a high-value theft of gold, diamond jewellery, and other precious items worth crores and were planning to escape to Nepal via the Bahraich route.
The Hyderabad police had also provided photographs of the suspects, enabling the SSB to launch an intensive checking drive at the Rupaidiha checkpost. During this heightened surveillance, the two suspicious Nepali youths were intercepted, leading to the recovery of gold bangles, valuable gems, and rings from their possession.
Identities of the Accused and Legal Proceedings
The arrested individuals were identified as:
- Krishna Chandra, a resident of Karnali district, Nepal.
- Bhupendra Shahi, hailing from Athabis in Dailekh district, Nepal.
Following their apprehension, the SSB handed over both accused to Hyderabad police inspector Kaviuddin and his team for further legal action. This collaboration between state and border security forces underscores the effectiveness of coordinated efforts in tackling transnational crime.
The recovery of such high-value stolen goods highlights the ongoing challenges of cross-border smuggling and theft, with authorities emphasizing the importance of vigilance at key transit points like the Indo-Nepal border.
