STF Jawans Injured in Mob Attack While Arresting Murder Accused in Gaya
In a violent incident in Gaya, seven Special Task Force (STF) jawans sustained injuries after a mob attacked the police team during a raid to apprehend a murder accused. The attack occurred on Sunday night at Bhuin Toli in Khiriawan village, located under the Magadh Medical police station area.
Details of the Raid and Attack
STF personnel, operating in plain clothes, were conducting raids to arrest Sanjay Manjhi, who is wanted for the murder of a petrol pump owner's nephew under the Mufassil police station on November 11, 2024. During the operation, villagers allegedly raised an alarm, falsely identifying the jawans as thieves. This led to approximately 50 men and women, armed with sticks, surrounding the police team.
The mob assaulted the jawans and pelted bricks at them, causing significant harm. In an attempt to defend themselves, the jawans tried to fire warning shots into the air. However, villagers managed to snatch service pistols from two of the jawans before fleeing the scene.
Injuries and Police Response
Among the seven injured police personnel, Manikant Dubey and Santosh Choubey suffered serious head injuries, while Niraj Pandit sustained an eye injury. All three were admitted to Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College and Hospital, where they are now reported to be in stable condition.
Upon receiving information about the attack, Gaya SSP Sushil Kumar, City SP Kota Kiran Kumar, and City DSP Dharmendra Bharti rushed to the spot with additional forces from Bodh Gaya and Magadh Medical police station. They launched an intensive search operation to address the situation.
Arrests and Recovery
On Monday, the City SP provided an update, stating, "Police have arrested five people, including two women, and recovered the snatched pistols abandoned in a nearby field. We are also conducting raids to identify and nab all those involved in the attack." This swift action highlights the ongoing efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure public safety in the region.
