A 33-year-old woman, who is a practicing advocate, has lodged a formal complaint with the Jahangirpura police station in Surat, accusing her husband of posting abusive and sexually coloured remarks about her on the social media platform Instagram. According to police officials, the case highlights serious allegations of online harassment and domestic discord.
Background of the Marriage and Allegations
The complainant and the accused married in 2011 after a love affair, and they have two children, aged 11 and four years old. In her First Information Report (FIR), the woman stated that her husband has been addicted to liquor, ganja, and gambling for several years. She alleged that he repeatedly demanded money from her and her relatives to sustain these habits, creating financial strain and emotional distress within the family.
Escalation of the Domestic Dispute
The woman reported that she has been residing at her parents' home since February 2025 following a domestic dispute. The situation escalated when, on January 23, her husband called her and demanded that she return home by January 28. During this conversation, he allegedly threatened to kill their children if she failed to comply, adding a layer of fear and urgency to the case.
Instagram Post and Police Action
On January 29, the woman's cousin informed her that the accused had posted an abusive Instagram story targeting her character. A screenshot of the post was shared as evidence. Based on this complaint, the Jahangirpura police have registered a case against the husband under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act, initiating an investigation into the matter.
Separate Incident of Sexual Assault in Jahangirpura
In another distressing incident reported from the same police jurisdiction in Surat, a 14-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by a relative. According to the FIR, the girl lives with her parents in a residential society where the accused, her father's brother-in-law, also resides in a different apartment.
Details of the Assault
The incident occurred around 11:45 PM on January 21 when the accused lured the girl by offering her a ride on his motorcycle. He then took her to a deserted location in Vesu and sexually assaulted her. The complaint noted that the girl resisted the assault and raised an alarm, prompting the accused to return her to the society.
Legal Proceedings and Manhunt
After being informed by their daughter, the parents reported the matter to the police. Authorities have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Police officials stated that the accused has fled to Uttar Pradesh, and efforts are underway to trace and apprehend him.
