Family of Suspended Lecturer Refuses Body, Alleges Police Harassment Drove Him to Suicide
The family of a suspended government lecturer, who died by suicide in Jaipur, refused to claim his body on Thursday. They staged a sit-in protest outside the SMS Hospital mortuary, alleging that persistent harassment by investigators from the Special Operations Group (SOG) drove him to take the extreme step.
Details of the Tragic Incident
The deceased has been identified as Manohar Lal Bhadu, a former government lecturer who was under investigation by the SOG in connection with exam paper-leak cases. He had been suspended from his service and transferred from Sanchore in Jalore district to Jaipur. In Jaipur, he was reportedly preparing for other competitive examinations at the time of his death.
Officials confirmed that the investigation into the exam paper-leak cases is still ongoing. Bhadu died on Wednesday evening after jumping in front of a train within the limits of the Mahesh Nagar police station.
Family's Allegations and Demands
Family members of the deceased have made serious allegations against the SOG officers. They claim that these officers repeatedly harassed Bhadu and unfairly linked his name to multiple cases. This alleged harassment, they assert, is what ultimately led him to commit suicide.
In their protest, the family has put forth three key demands:
- Action against the SOG officers they hold responsible for the harassment.
- Financial compensation for the deceased's dependants.
- A government job for one of the family members.
The protest gained additional support when former Rajasthan University president Nirmal Choudhary joined the family on Thursday evening.
Controversial Suicide Note and Police Response
Police officials revealed that Bhadu left behind a purported suicide note. In this note, he reportedly claimed that he was not dying by suicide and instead alleged that the police had "intentionally murdered" him.
This note was reportedly shared with friends and later circulated on social media platforms. Authorities have stated that the note is currently being examined to verify its authenticity and confirm its authorship.
Despite repeated efforts by the police to persuade the family to allow a post-mortem examination and to perform the last rites, the relatives continued their protest late into Thursday evening. Police sources indicated that efforts to resolve the standoff would resume on Friday.
The situation remains tense as the family's refusal to claim the body underscores their deep-seated grievances and demands for justice in this tragic case.
