According to police reports, Shanmugapriya was a teacher at a private school and had been in a relationship with a man named Gautam from the same locality. The two had met while studying at a private engineering college near Rasipuram. Sub-inspector G Kannan stated that the relationship ended recently due to Gautam's abusive behavior. Following the breakup, Shanmugapriya's family had begun searching for a suitable bridegroom for her, initiating wedding preparations.
The situation took a dark turn when Gautam, in an apparent attempt to sabotage these wedding plans, uploaded morphed images of Shanmugapriya on Facebook and Instagram. These actions caused significant distress to the young teacher, who was deeply upset by the online harassment.
Discovery of the Tragedy and Police Response
On Tuesday evening, Shanmugapriya's mother, K Vijayalakshmi, returned home from work to find her daughter hanging from the ceiling of her room. Vijayalakshmi, a widow, immediately alerted the Magudanchavadi police, who swiftly arrived at the scene. The authorities retrieved the body and transported it to the government hospital in Sankari for a postmortem examination.
In her formal complaint to the police, Vijayalakshmi explicitly linked her daughter's suicide to the emotional turmoil caused by Gautam's social media posts. The Magudanchavadi police have registered a case and are actively conducting inquiries into the matter.
