The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Telangana has registered a case against a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) for amassing disproportionate assets, following extensive raids that exposed a sprawling network of properties. The accused officer, identified as DSP K. Srinivas Reddy, is alleged to have accumulated wealth far exceeding his known sources of income.
Raids Uncover Extensive Holdings
During searches conducted at multiple locations linked to the DSP, authorities seized documents revealing ownership of over 20 plots of land, several residential houses, and luxury vehicles. The raids, which took place across Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, and Medchal districts, also uncovered bank deposits and investments in various companies. According to ACB officials, the total value of the assets is estimated to be several crores, significantly disproportionate to the DSP's legitimate earnings.
The investigation began after a tip-off led to surveillance of the officer's activities. It was found that DSP Srinivas Reddy had acquired properties in the names of his family members and shell entities to mask the ownership. The ACB has registered a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and further inquiries are underway to trace the source of the funds.
Details of the Assets
The seized assets include a farmhouse on the outskirts of Hyderabad, multiple apartments in prime locations, and agricultural land in several districts. Additionally, the DSP owned high-end cars, including a Toyota Fortuner and a Hyundai Creta. Bank accounts in the names of his wife and children were found to have substantial balances, which the officer could not account for during questioning. The ACB has also recovered documents related to fixed deposits and mutual fund investments.
Sources indicate that the DSP had been under scrutiny for some time, with complaints of corruption and misuse of power. The raids were conducted after obtaining search warrants from a local court. The ACB team, led by a Superintendent of Police, carried out the operations simultaneously at six locations.
Legal Proceedings and Reactions
The ACB has issued a notice to DSP Srinivas Reddy, asking him to explain the source of the assets. He has been suspended from service pending a departmental inquiry. Senior officials of the Telangana Police have stated that strict action will be taken against any officer found guilty of corruption. The case has drawn attention to the issue of disproportionate assets among government officials in the state.
According to ACB officials, the investigation is part of a broader crackdown on corruption in the police force. The agency has urged the public to come forward with information about any other officials involved in similar activities. The DSP's lawyer has declined to comment, stating that they will present their case before the court.
The raids have sent shockwaves through the department, with many calling for a thorough probe into the assets of other officers. The ACB has assured that the investigation will be conducted transparently and that all evidence will be presented in court.
