Thane Crime Branch Busts Major Narcotics Operation, Seizes 123.6 kg of Ganja
In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the Thane Crime Branch seized a massive consignment of 123.6 kilograms of ganja valued at approximately Rs 31 lakh near the defunct Kharegaon toll plaza in Kalwa on Wednesday. The operation led to the arrest of two residents from Nashik district, marking a major victory in the ongoing fight against narcotics in the region.
Tip-Off Leads to Highway Interception
Police officials revealed that the action was initiated based on a specific and credible tip-off regarding a large-scale narcotics consignment being transported towards the Mumbra area. Acting swiftly on this intelligence, a dedicated team from the Crime Branch laid an elaborate trap along the strategic Nashik–Mumbai highway stretch.
The team successfully intercepted a car that was travelling from Bhiwandi towards Thane. During a thorough search of the vehicle, authorities discovered five plastic bags cleverly concealed inside, which contained the illicit ganja. The meticulous planning and execution of the operation underscore the police's commitment to curbing drug-related activities.
Arrested Accused Identified from Nashik District
The two individuals arrested in connection with this narcotics bust have been identified as Sagar Govind Pawar, aged 33, a resident of Nandur Shingote in Sinnar, and Dhondiram Chaitu Bhagde, aged 50, from Nandgaon Sado in Igatpuri. Both hail from Nashik district, highlighting the cross-regional nature of the drug trafficking network.
This seizure is part of a broader effort by law enforcement agencies to dismantle organized crime syndicates involved in the illegal drug trade. The Thane Crime Branch's proactive measures demonstrate their vigilance in responding to actionable intelligence and ensuring public safety.
The case is currently under further investigation to uncover potential links and connections to larger drug cartels. Authorities are also examining the modus operandi used by the accused to transport such a substantial quantity of contraband without detection until this interception.
