Army Colonel's Home Targeted in Daring Daylight Robbery

In a shocking incident that has raised security concerns, three individuals including a minor breached the residence of an Army colonel in Mumbai's Malad area and made off with unexpected loot - a licensed revolver, nine rounds of bullets, and valuable silver jewellery. The brazen theft occurred on November 1, 2025, at approximately 1 PM, when the perpetrators targeted flats within the Army Central Ordnance Depot (COD) residential quarters.

The Heist and Investigation Unfold

The accused identified as Deepak Dhanve and Vinayak Baviskar, along with a minor accomplice, executed their plan with precision. Finding the main gate shut, the trio cleverly climbed through a smaller entrance gate to gain access to the compound. They identified an unoccupied flat, broke the lock, and began searching for valuables.

During their illegal search, they stumbled upon more than they anticipated - discovering a revolver with nine live bullets alongside 480 grams of silver jewellery. The family members returned home to find their residence ransacked and immediately reported the missing items to the Dindoshi police station.

Given the serious nature of the stolen firearm, the Mumbai crime branch initiated a parallel investigation, combining CCTV footage analysis with mobile network tracking to identify potential suspects.

Goa Party Funded by Stolen Goods

The investigation reached its climax when crime branch officials from Unit XII zeroed in on the three suspects and brought them in for questioning on Friday. During interrogation, the accused reportedly broke down and confessed to their crimes.

In a surprising revelation, the accused admitted they had sold the stolen jewellery and used the proceeds to fund a party trip to Goa. They had hidden the more dangerous items - the revolver and bullets - near Malad creek, which they subsequently revealed to the police during the investigation.

The crime branch team successfully recovered the stolen firearm from the hiding spot and placed the two adult accused under formal arrest on Sunday. The accused were produced before the court and remanded to police custody for further interrogation to determine if they were involved in other criminal activities.

This incident has highlighted significant security concerns within military residential quarters and raised questions about the safekeeping of licensed firearms. The Mumbai police have assured thorough investigation into the matter while the Army authorities are likely to review security protocols at their residential facilities.
