Bhojpur Police Arrests Three Youths for Murder of Student Over Social Media Comment
In a swift operation, Bhojpur police on Saturday arrested three youths accused of the kidnapping and murder of an Intermediate student, Sunny Kumar. The incident, which has sent shockwaves through the community, allegedly stemmed from an abusive comment made by the victim on social media against a girl.
Details of the Crime and Arrest
Sunny Kumar, a resident of Ekwana village in the Barhara police station area, was reportedly killed on Friday. According to police officials, the victim was strangled to death, and his body was recovered from a water-filled pit in the Mufassil police station area of Ara.
Vipin Bihari, the Ara Nawada Station House Officer (SHO), confirmed the arrests, stating, "Three accused—Badal Kumar, Adarsh Kumar, and Anish Kumar—all from Ara town were arrested within 24 hours of the murder of Sunny." This rapid police action highlights the seriousness with which authorities are treating the case.
Motive Behind the Murder
Initial investigations by the police reveal that the murder was motivated by a social media dispute. Sunny Kumar had allegedly posted abusive comments against the girlfriend of his cousin on her social media handle. Sources indicate that the girl was reportedly involved with another boyfriend, and Sunny, believing she was deceiving his cousin, made the derogatory remarks.
In response, the girl's boyfriend, Badal Kumar, along with his friends, allegedly hatched a plan to kill Sunny at the provocation of the girl. This tragic escalation from online conflict to real-world violence underscores the dangerous consequences of social media altercations.
Sequence of Events Leading to the Crime
Sandip Kumar, the cousin of the victim, provided chilling details of the incident. He recounted that on Friday, while Sunny was on his way to attend coaching classes in Ara, he called his elder brother in distress. Sunny reported that some youths had forcibly made him ride their bike and were taking him towards Garhani.
Later, Sunny's body was discovered in a water-filled pit. "He was strangled," alleged Sandip Kumar, highlighting the brutal nature of the crime. The case has raised concerns about safety and the impact of social media conflicts in the region.
Community and Police Response
The arrest of the three accused within a day of the murder demonstrates the efficiency of Bhojpur police in handling such heinous crimes. However, this incident also brings to light the growing issue of violence triggered by online interactions, particularly among youth.
Local authorities are urging residents to exercise caution on social media platforms and resolve disputes through peaceful means. The case serves as a stark reminder of how digital disagreements can spiral into fatal outcomes, necessitating greater awareness and preventive measures.
