Three Family Members Killed in Vikarabad Truck-Scooter Collision

A devastating road accident in Vikarabad district on Monday morning resulted in the tragic deaths of three family members and left a teenage boy injured. The incident occurred when a truck collided head-on with a scooter carrying a family of four, highlighting ongoing concerns about road safety and negligent driving.

Details of the Fatal Accident

The accident took place in the early hours of Monday around 6:30 AM near Tattepalli village under Peddemul mandal. According to Peddemul sub-inspector Prashant Vardhan, the family was returning to their home in Zaheerabad after visiting relatives in Rukmapur when the collision occurred.

The truck driver, identified as Md Sharif, was allegedly driving negligently and veered into the wrong lane, striking the scooter with tremendous force. The impact was so severe that three of the four family members died instantly at the scene from their injuries.

Victims Identified

The deceased have been identified as:

  • Kaviraj, 40, a private financier from Zaheerabad
  • His wife Pavani, 35
  • Their daughter Keerthana, 11

The couple's 13-year-old son, Karthik, survived the crash but sustained significant injuries. He was immediately rushed to Niloufer Hospital for emergency medical treatment. The family had traveled to Rukmapur, Pavani's native village, to discuss preparations for her brother's wedding scheduled for next month.

Legal Action Taken

Following a complaint from the victims' family, police have registered a case against truck driver Md Sharif under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The charges include:

  1. Section 106(1) - Causing death due to negligence
  2. Section 125(a) - Causing hurt by an act endangering life or personal safety of others

Authorities have issued a formal notice to the truck driver as per legal procedures. The bodies of the three victims were transported to Tandur Government Hospital for post-mortem examination before being handed over to grieving family members.

Broader Implications for Road Safety

This tragic incident underscores the persistent problem of road accidents in India, particularly those involving commercial vehicles and two-wheelers. The fact that an entire family was devastated during what should have been a routine journey home raises serious questions about enforcement of traffic regulations and driver accountability.

Road safety advocates point to such accidents as evidence of the need for stricter monitoring of commercial vehicle operators, improved road infrastructure in rural areas, and enhanced public awareness campaigns about defensive driving techniques.

The Vikarabad tragedy serves as a somber reminder of how quickly ordinary travel can turn catastrophic when combined with negligent behavior on public roads. As investigations continue, the community mourns the loss of three lives and prays for the recovery of the young survivor.
