Tragic Highway Collision Claims Three Lives in Gorakhpur
In a devastating early morning incident, three relatives lost their lives and four others sustained serious injuries when a speeding SUV rammed into a stationary trailer on National Highway-28 in Gorakhpur's Hata area. The fatal crash occurred around 3 am on Sunday, casting a pall of grief over the local community.
Fog and Speed Blamed for Catastrophic Impact
According to police reports, the accident unfolded under hazardous conditions marked by dense fog and poor visibility. A truck and a half-trailer had previously collided and were standing immobile on the highway. The approaching SUV, traveling at high speed, failed to spot the stationary vehicles in time due to the thick fog.
The collision was of tremendous force, completely mangling the car upon impact. The scene was described as chaotic, with the wreckage making rescue operations extremely challenging for both locals and police personnel who rushed to the site.
Victims Identified as Family Members Returning from Function
All occupants of the vehicle were returning to Gorakhpur after attending a family function. The three deceased have been identified as Raju Verma alias Nitesh (20), Aman Verma (25), and Harish Verma (25). All were residents of Ahirauli Tula Das village and were related to each other, belonging to the same close-knit community.
The four injured individuals—Mukesh Verma, Shailesh Verma, Suraj Verma, and Vikas Verma—were rushed to hospitals in Hata and Gorakhpur for emergency medical treatment. Police confirmed that one of the injured is in critical condition, fighting for his life in the hospital.
Rescue Efforts and Investigation Underway
The accident occurred specifically in front of the Royal Palace under the jurisdiction of Hata Kotwali police limits. Rescue teams struggled for an extended period to extract the victims from the severely damaged vehicle. Tragically, by the time they were successfully pulled from the wreckage, three young men had already succumbed to their injuries on the spot.
