Tragic Road Accidents in Delhi Result in Three Fatalities Over Two Days
In a distressing series of events, three separate road accidents have claimed the lives of three individuals and left several others injured across Delhi over the past two days. According to police reports, FIRs have been registered in all cases, and investigations are currently underway to determine the exact circumstances surrounding these tragic incidents.
Fatal Collision Near Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management
The first incident occurred on Tuesday morning near the Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management in Dwarka. Police received a PCR call at approximately 11:57 am, reporting a severe accident. Upon arrival, officers discovered a devastating scene involving an SUV, a taxi, and a motorcycle that had collided, leaving the vehicles wrecked on the road.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the motorcycle rider, identified as Sahil Dhaneshra, a 23-year-old resident of Bagdola village, succumbed to his injuries at the spot. The taxi driver, Ajit Singh, sustained injuries and was promptly rushed to IGI Hospital for medical treatment. The SUV driver, Akshatra Singh, aged 19, was present at the scene but was found to be driving without a valid licence.
Police stated that the SUV was traveling from the Gurudwara side when it collided with the motorcycle coming from the opposite direction. The impact caused the SUV to subsequently hit a taxi that was parked on the roadside. The crime team was called to inspect the location, and Akshatra Singh was arrested. Dhaneshra's body was transferred to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, while all three vehicles were seized as part of the ongoing investigation.
Hit-and-Run Incident Near Chhatrasal Stadium
In another tragic case, Model Town police registered an FIR following a hit-and-run accident reported near Chhatrasal Stadium on Tuesday. The victim, Santosh Kumar Gupta, a 45-year-old resident of Malikpur village in Mukherjee Nagar, was found dead at the scene. Another individual, Mewa Ram, a 45-year-old rickshaw puller from Gonda district in Uttar Pradesh, sustained injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital.
Mewa Ram informed the police that he and Santosh were transporting vegetables from Azadpur Mandi to Malikpur in a rickshaw when an unidentified vehicle struck them from behind and fled the scene. Authorities have registered a case under sections 281, 106(1), and 125(A) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and are actively working to identify the offending vehicle involved in this hit-and-run incident.
Accident on Rajokri Flyover Involving Car and Truck
Meanwhile, in the early hours of February 2, a separate accident was reported at the Rajokri flyover towards Delhi, under the jurisdiction of the Vasant Kunj South police station. The incident involved a car ramming into a truck that had been parked on the flyover following a tyre burst.
Police confirmed that three people were injured in this collision and were taken to the AIIMS Trauma Centre for treatment. Tragically, a 23-year-old woman was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital. Two other individuals, including a 47-year-old pedestrian, are currently undergoing medical care. The car driver, Prakash Kumar, a 29-year-old resident of Darbhanga district in Bihar, was later apprehended by the authorities.
In all three cases, police have emphasized that FIRs have been formally registered, and thorough investigations are in progress to ensure justice and enhance road safety measures in the capital. These incidents highlight the urgent need for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations and increased public awareness to prevent such tragedies in the future.
