In a significant crackdown on the illicit drug trade, the Sri Sathya Sai district police have apprehended four individuals involved in ganja smuggling and confiscated a substantial quantity of the contraband. The operation, which underscores the police department's ongoing offensive against narcotics, took place near Kadiri on Friday.
Police Nab Smugglers and Seize Contraband
Acting on intelligence, a police team intercepted the accused and took them into custody. The individuals arrested have been identified as B Anjaneyulu (23), D Pavan (25), S Suri (34), and C Adinarayana (28). During the arrest, the police successfully seized 1.2 kilograms of ganja from their possession. Kadiri DSP J Sivanarayana Swamy provided details of the operation, highlighting it as part of a sustained effort to dismantle drug networks in the region.
Chain of Addiction Unraveled: Customers Detained and Counselled
The investigation took a broader turn following the interrogation of the arrested smugglers. Police discovered that the accused had a network of regular customers, primarily youngsters. Acting on this information, the Kadiri police took approximately 10 young individuals addicted to ganja into custody for further questioning.
In a parallel move focused on rehabilitation and deterrence, the police summoned 15 other youngsters who were found to have consumed the drug. These individuals were counselled at the police station in the presence of their parents. After the counselling session aimed at steering them away from substance abuse, they were let off with a stern warning about the legal and personal consequences of their actions.
Public Parade and a Stern Warning
In a move intended to deter others, the police later paraded the arrested ganja smugglers in the streets. This public display serves as a strong visual message about the consequences of engaging in the drug trade. The Kadiri police have reiterated their commitment to eradicating the ganja menace from the district.
DSP J Sivanarayana Swamy warned that the police department will continue its aggressive campaign against ganja smuggling and trafficking. He also made a public appeal, urging citizens to cooperate with the authorities. The police have asked the community to report any information regarding drug-related activities in their neighbourhoods promptly, emphasizing that public vigilance is crucial in winning the fight against narcotics.
