Tragic Tractor Accident Claims Four Lives in Telangana's Jagtial District
A devastating road accident involving an overturned tractor trolley has resulted in the deaths of four individuals, including a teenage girl, and left eight others injured in Jagtial district of Telangana. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening, casting a pall of grief over the local agricultural community.
Details of the Fatal Incident
According to police reports, the tragedy unfolded around 6 PM on the outskirts of Mogilipet village in Mallapur mandal. A tractor trolley carrying 15 agricultural workers overturned and plunged into a roadside ditch adjacent to farm fields. The victims were returning home after a day's work in turmeric fields near Rathnapur village.
Villagers rushed to the scene immediately after the accident, pulling the injured from beneath the overturned vehicle. Despite their efforts, three women agricultural workers died at the spot. The injured were transported to hospitals in Metpalli, Jagtial, and Karimnagar for emergency treatment.
Victims Identified and Medical Response
The deceased have been identified as Mangalapuram Lalita (40), Sampangi Sayamma (35), Peddi Reddy Gangu (55), and Thungena Vaishnavi (14), all residents of Mogilipet village. Tragically, the 14-year-old girl was declared brought dead upon arrival at Metpalli hospital.
Circle Inspector V Anil Kumar of Metpalli confirmed that eight other injured workers are currently receiving medical care and are reported to be out of danger. The tractor trolley had completely overturned during the accident, falling directly on the victims.
Police Investigation and Legal Action
Based on statements from survivors, police have determined that rash and negligent driving caused the fatal accident. A case has been registered against the tractor driver, identified as Gangadhar of Mogilipet village, under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The charges include:
- Section 106(1) for causing death by negligence
- Section 125(a) for causing hurt by an act endangering life or personal safety
The accused driver is currently absconding, with police actively searching for him. This incident highlights ongoing safety concerns regarding agricultural transportation in rural areas, particularly the risks faced by farm workers during daily commutes.
The local community remains in shock as authorities continue their investigation into this preventable tragedy that has left multiple families bereaved and several workers recovering from injuries.
