Tragic Accident in Pune Village Claims Woman's Life
A devastating incident unfolded in the early hours of Wednesday morning in Katarkhadak village, located within Mulshi taluka approximately 37 kilometers from Pune. A 50-year-old woman lost her life, and another woman sustained injuries when a truck carrying soil overturned and collapsed onto a residential house. The local police have swiftly taken action, registering a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder against the truck driver involved in this heartbreaking event.
Details of the Fatal Incident
According to officials from the Paud police station, the tragedy occurred during ongoing ring road construction work in the Mulshi taluka area. On that fateful morning, soil was being dumped as part of the infrastructure project in Katarkhadak village. The house belonging to the deceased, identified as Nanda Malpote, was situated directly alongside the road where the work was taking place.
"While laying the soil, the dumper truck suddenly turned on its side and fell directly onto Malpote's house," explained a police officer involved in the investigation. The impact was severe, causing a wall of the house to collapse completely. Both Nanda Malpote and another woman were tragically trapped beneath the resulting debris and the massive load of soil.
Rescue Efforts and Aftermath
Nearby residents, alerted by the commotion, rushed to the scene and immediately began efforts to rescue the trapped women. In a frantic attempt to save lives, they managed to extract one of the women from the wreckage and quickly transported her to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
After continued efforts, the residents were able to locate and bring out Nanda Malpote from the debris. She was rushed to the hospital with urgent haste, but medical professionals pronounced her dead upon arrival. The other woman remains under medical care for her injuries.
Legal Action and Investigation
The Paud police have registered a formal case based on a complaint lodged by the son of the deceased woman. The charges filed against the truck driver include culpable homicide not amounting to murder, indicating serious negligence in the operation of the vehicle during construction activities.
This incident highlights significant safety concerns surrounding construction zones and transportation of materials in residential areas.
