Gurgaon Police Nab Two in Disturbing Assault and Conversion Case

In a shocking incident from Gurgaon, two men were apprehended by police on Wednesday following allegations of assault, repeated threats, and pressure for religious conversion against a woman. The authorities described the crime as executed "through a planned conspiracy", revealing a complex web of deception that spanned over a year.

Details of the Alleged Conspiracy

According to police reports, the accused—identified as Aarif alias "Aarav" (35) and Tarif (34), both residents of Dhunela village in Gurgaon—targeted the woman under the guise of an insurance policy. The victim, who worked in the insurance department of a company in Sector 15 in 2022, met Tarif during work. He introduced her to his "boss Aarav", whose real name is Aarif, claiming they operated a firm named SS Enterprise.

"Aarav" contacted her over the phone, presenting himself as a Hindu and purchasing an insurance policy from her. Police stated that he gradually won her trust, entered into a romantic relationship, and met her family, portraying himself as an unmarried contractor in Gurgaon with no family responsibilities. Concealing his true identity, "Aarav" married her on Sohna-Palwal Road on November 4, 2022, following Hindu rituals.

Escalation of Violence and Deception

After the marriage, when the woman became pregnant, "Aarav" allegedly pressured her to undergo an abortion. When doctors informed them that the pregnancy was six months old and termination could be life-threatening, he assaulted her. During delivery, he left her at a private hospital in Sector 47 and returned only after the child was born.

Following the birth, Tarif informed the woman that "Aarav" was not Hindu, his name was Aarif, and he was already married with three children. In 2023, "Aarav" took her to Dhunela, where his mother Jaituni, wife Arshida, and brothers Irshad, Nomen, and Momen assaulted her and pressured her to convert to Islam.

Recent Developments and Police Action

The woman later left the house out of fear and began living in Rajiv Nagar, leaving the child behind. On Monday, "Aarav" came to her accommodation, assaulted her, and threatened to kill her if she did not convert. The victim has now been admitted to a government hospital in Sector 10 on Tuesday with serious injuries. A police team from Sector 14 recorded her statement there.

Police spokesperson Sandeep Kumar said, "Aarif admitted that Tarif, who earlier worked as his driver, helped him contact the victim through insurance-related work." The case highlights a disturbing pattern of manipulation and violence, with authorities emphasizing the planned nature of the conspiracy.

This incident underscores ongoing concerns about personal safety and religious coercion in urban areas, prompting calls for stricter enforcement and community awareness to prevent such crimes in the future.
