Faridabad Police Arrest Two, Form SIT in Surajkund Fair Swing Accident

In a significant development following the tragic Surajkund fair swing accident, Faridabad police have arrested two individuals and established a three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the incident that claimed the life of Haryana Police Inspector Jagdish Prasad.

Details of the Tragic Incident

The unfortunate event occurred on February 7 when a swing malfunctioned at the Surajkund fair premises, resulting in injuries to 13 individuals. Inspector Jagdish Prasad, who was heroically assisting the injured during the chaos, lost his life in the line of duty. According to Faridabad police spokesperson, Inspector Prasad was martyred while providing aid to those affected by the mishap. His body was subsequently handed over to his family after a postmortem examination at Civil Hospital in Faridabad.

Arrests and Legal Action

Police authorities have registered a formal case at Surajkund police station against Mohammad Shakir, the proprietor of Himachal Fun Care Company. The charges include sections related to culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Shakir, a resident of Toka Nangla village in Sirmaur district, Himachal Pradesh, has been apprehended along with another accused named Nitesh, who hails from Dharmapuri, Sadar Meerut Cantt in Uttar Pradesh. Law enforcement officials have indicated that the investigation will also scrutinize the roles of other individuals involved in the installation and operation of the swing.

Formation of Special Investigation Team

Recognizing the gravity of the situation, Faridabad Police Commissioner Satender Kumar Gupta has constituted a dedicated Special Investigation Team. This SIT will operate under the direct supervision of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime). The team comprises the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime-2), the in-charge of Crime Branch NIT, and Sub-Inspector Sanjay from Surajkund police station. The investigative approach will leverage scientific and technical evidence to ensure a thorough examination of the case.

Condolences and Support for the Bereaved

Haryana Director General of Police Ajay Singhal and Police Commissioner Satendra Kumar Gupta visited Civil Hospital in Faridabad to meet with the family members of the martyred inspector. They extended their heartfelt condolences and praised Inspector Jagdish Prasad for his ultimate sacrifice while saving others. The DGP expressed immense pride in the inspector's bravery and assured the family of comprehensive financial assistance. Additionally, he confirmed that an eligible family member would be offered employment under the department's compassionate policy.

Condition of the Injured

The DGP and police commissioner also made visits to Civil Hospital and Supreme Hospital to check on the condition of those injured in the accident. Police reports indicate that 12 people sustained injuries, with all currently in stable condition. Five of the injured have already been discharged after receiving necessary medical treatment.
