A devastating road accident claimed the lives of two young men in Chitrakoot district on Thursday evening. The fatal incident occurred when their motorcycle collided with a truck, triggering a massive explosion that engulfed both vehicles in flames.
Horrific Collision and Immediate Blaze
The tragedy unfolded on the Karwi–Prayagraj Road near the Baghrehi area. According to eyewitness accounts, the impact of the collision was severe, causing the motorcycle to become trapped under the truck. The force of the crash ruptured the truck's diesel tank, leading to a loud blast and a towering inferno that consumed both the bike and the truck within seconds.
The two riders had no time or space to escape the rapidly spreading fire. Eyewitnesses reported that the intensity of the flames was overwhelming, leaving onlookers helpless.
Chaos, Response, and Traffic Snarl
In the aftermath of the explosion, the truck driver and his helper reportedly fled the scene. Fire brigade teams rushed to the spot and battled the intense blaze for over an hour before finally managing to douse it.
The accident caused significant disruption on the connected Mirzapur National Highway. Authorities halted traffic as a safety precaution, leading to a severe traffic jam on both sides of the road. Normal movement was only restored late into the night, after the situation was brought under control.
Police Investigation and Victim Identification
Raipura Station House Officer (SHO) Ashutosh Tiwari, who arrived at the site with his team, provided insights into the probable cause. He stated that the motorcycle appeared to have collided directly with the truck's diesel tank. The friction and ignition, combined with a substantial quantity of diesel in the tank, caused the fire to accelerate violently.
Chitrakoot Superintendent of Police (SP) Arun Kumar Singh also inspected the accident site. He confirmed that both riders were pulled from under the burnt wreckage in critical condition and rushed to the district hospital. Sadly, both succumbed to their severe burns during treatment.
While one of the deceased has been identified as Omkar Singh, the other victim was charred beyond immediate recognition. Police have launched a search operation to trace and apprehend the absconding truck driver and his helper.
