Tragedy struck the Udupi district of Karnataka twice within a day as two separate road accidents claimed two lives. In the first incident, a labourer who was critically injured after being hit by a bus succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. The second accident involved a two-wheeler rider who died after a bus collided with his vehicle from behind.

Labourer Succumbs After Bus Hit on National Highway

The first fatal accident occurred on Thursday on National Highway 169(A), on the route from Udupi towards Hiriyadka. According to police reports, two labourers, identified as Salim and Govardhan Bheem Mandal, were crossing the road near Athradi Shedigudde. At that moment, a bus driven by Manjunath H hit both individuals.

Both victims sustained severe injuries. Salim suffered head injuries and abrasions across his body, while Govardhan received injuries to the back of his head along with abrasions. They were initially admitted to a private hospital for urgent treatment before being transferred to the government-run Wenlock District Hospital in Mangaluru for further care.

Despite receiving medical attention, Salim could not survive his grievous injuries. He passed away at 4.51 am on Friday. The Hiriyadka police station has registered a case against the bus driver under sections 281, 125(b), and 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Separate Collision Claims Life of Two-Wheeler Rider in Brahmavar

In a heartbreaking parallel incident reported on Friday morning, a two-wheeler rider lost his life in a collision with a bus at Ambika Param in Handadi village, Brahmavar. The deceased has been identified as Pavan.

The accident took place when Pavan was riding his motorcycle from Barkur towards Brahmavar. A bus, driven by Harisha, reportedly hit Pavan's two-wheeler from behind. The impact of the collision caused serious injuries to Pavan.

He was immediately shifted to a hospital in Brahmavar for emergency treatment. However, he succumbed to his injuries around 9.35 am on Friday. The Brahmavar police have registered a case in this matter under sections 281 and 106 of the BNS against the bus driver.

Aftermath and Legal Proceedings

These back-to-back fatal accidents have cast a shadow over the Udupi district, highlighting ongoing concerns about road safety on busy highways and rural routes. The police in both jurisdictions are conducting thorough investigations into the circumstances that led to each tragedy.

The use of sections from the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita indicates the serious legal ramifications for the accused drivers.
