Two Men Nabbed in Bhubaneswar for Major Rice Supply Scam

The Delhi Police has successfully apprehended two individuals from Bhubaneswar in connection with a sophisticated fraud case that cheated a rice supplier out of Rs 20 lakh. The accused allegedly posed as officials from a private company to obtain goods through fabricated documents.

The Elaborate Deception Unfolded

According to police reports, a seasoned businessman operating MPD Retail, a rice and food supply company with 15 years of experience, filed a formal complaint. The complainant stated that three individuals—Deepak Kumar Singh, Basudev Swain, and Amit Kumar Singh—presented themselves as authorized officials of Smartvalue Limited.

They deceitfully claimed their company intended to purchase rice for testing purposes, with the promise of future large-scale procurement orders. This convincing act led the supplier to deliver the goods, after which the accused abruptly ceased all communication, ignoring calls and messages.

Investigation Reveals Forgery and Swift Profiteering

When the supplier directly contacted Smartvalue Limited for follow-up, the company confirmed a shocking revelation: none of the three accused had any official association with the organization. All documents, seals, and purchase orders presented by the fraudsters were confirmed to be counterfeit.

The police confirmed that the rice had already been sold off, with the perpetrators making a quick profit from their illicit activities. A formal case was registered at the Subhash Place police station in Delhi, initiating a thorough investigation.

Arrests and Ongoing Manhunt

During the investigation, law enforcement officials meticulously examined the forged documents, which further solidified that the accused had no legitimate links to the company. This evidence trail led to the arrest of two primary suspects from the jurisdiction of the Kharavel Nagar police station in Bhubaneswar.

The arrested individuals were identified as Basudev Swain (35), a resident of Lucknow, and Deepak Kumar (40), from Varanasi. Following their arrest, both men reportedly admitted to their involvement in the fraud. Police officials stated that the accused confessed to committing such offences as a means to earn easy money.

Authorities have confirmed that efforts are actively underway to locate their third associate, Amit Kumar Singh, and to trace the proceeds of the crime. The investigation continues as police work to uncover the full extent of this fraudulent network.
