Swift Police Action Leads to Arrests

In a display of prompt law enforcement, Chandigarh Police successfully apprehended two suspects merely hours after a snatching incident was reported in the Industrial Area. The quick response led to the recovery of a stolen mobile phone, an Aadhaar card, and the motorcycle allegedly used to commit the crime.

Details of the Snatching Incident

The case began when Poonam, a 23-year-old resident of Mauli Jagran Part-II who works as domestic help in Sector 27, filed a complaint with the police. According to her statement, the incident occurred around 10:30 am on Thursday while she was cycling to work.

As she neared the Gaushala in Phase I, two individuals on a motorcycle approached her from behind. The person riding pillion suddenly snatched her purse which contained her Realme mobile phone, Aadhaar card, and a SIM card. The duo then quickly fled toward the CTU workshop area.

Investigation and Arrests

Following the complaint, a specialized team from the Industrial Area police station immediately launched an investigation to track down the perpetrators. The police team worked under the direction of SSP Kanwardeep Kaur and SP (City) K M Priyanka, with supervision from SDPO (East) Vijay Kumar and SHO Satnam Singh.

Their efforts soon led to the identification and arrest of the two accused: Mohit Pathak, 33, of Daria and Vikash, 24, of Motihari district in Bihar. During the arrest, police successfully recovered the stolen mobile phone, Aadhaar card, and the motorcycle bearing registration number CH-01-AX-5939 from their possession.

Legal Proceedings and Criminal History

The police registered an FIR at the Industrial Area police station under relevant sections of the law. During the investigation, Section 317(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was added to the initial charges filed under sections 304(2) and 3(5) of the BNS.

Both accused have been sent to judicial custody following their arrest. Police officials revealed that Vikash is a habitual offender with a previous criminal case registered against him under the Indian Penal Code at Mauli Jagran police station.

This incident highlights the effectiveness of Chandigarh Police's rapid response system in tackling street crimes and ensuring the recovery of stolen property, providing some relief to victims of such offenses.
