Two Uttar Pradesh Sub-Inspectors Suspended Following Anti-Corruption Probes
In a significant crackdown on police misconduct, two sub-inspectors in Uttar Pradesh have been suspended after separate bribery allegations were found prima facie true following investigations by the anti-corruption cell of the Devipatan range. The decisive action was taken under the direct orders of Inspector General of Police Amit Pathak, underscoring a firm stance against corruption within the force.
First Case: Extortion Allegation in Shravasti District
The first incident unfolded at the Hardattnagar Print police station in Shravasti district. A resident of Chhota Gulaura village, located under the jurisdiction of Nanpara police station in Bahraich, filed a formal complaint via the anti-corruption helpline. The complainant alleged that on the night of June 20, 2025, Sub-Inspector Ankur Verma, accompanied by other policemen, detained him and took him to the police station for questioning.
The individual claimed he was only released the following morning after a staggering sum of Rs 1.30 lakh was extorted through a local middleman. This serious accusation prompted an immediate probe by the anti-corruption authorities, leading to the suspension of S-I Ankur Verma pending further departmental proceedings.
Second Case: Fraudulent FIR Demand in Bhinga Area
In a separate but equally troubling case, a woman from the Bhinga area of Shravasti district came forward with allegations against Jail Chowki in-charge S N Yadav. The woman reported that, amid a dispute with her neighbor, Yadav demanded and accepted Rs 2,000 through a broker. The payment was allegedly solicited under the false pretext of registering a First Information Report (FIR) and initiating legal action against the neighbor.
However, after the money changed hands, no FIR was ever lodged, leaving the complainant without the promised recourse. This incident highlighted a blatant abuse of power for personal gain, further tarnishing the reputation of local law enforcement.
Immediate Actions and Ongoing Proceedings
Following thorough investigations that substantiated the bribery charges as prima facie true, both Sub-Inspector Ankur Verma of Hardattnagar Print police station and Jail Chowki in-charge S N Yadav were promptly placed under suspension. Departmental proceedings have been formally initiated against the accused officers, signaling a commitment to accountability and transparency within the police department.
The anti-corruption cell's proactive measures in these cases reflect a broader effort to curb malpractice and restore public trust in Uttar Pradesh's law enforcement agencies. As the proceedings advance, authorities emphasize a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption, aiming to deter similar misconduct in the future.
