Udupi Police Nab Five Suspects in Attempted Murder Case

In a significant breakthrough, the Udupi Town police station personnel have arrested five suspects linked to an attempt to murder case, stemming from a violent assault reported in Udupi town on January 30. The arrests were made following a detailed investigation into the incident, which has sent shockwaves through the local community.

Details of the Arrested Suspects

The police have identified the arrested individuals as:

  • Akshath Pai, aged 27, from Kunjibettu
  • Sushanth, aged 25, from Shivalli
  • Ramanand Pai, aged 42, from Udupi
  • Santosh Koraga, aged 38, from Ammunjegudde
  • Shamshank Nayak, aged 25, from Alevoor village in Udupi

All five were apprehended from Yellapura in Uttara Kannada on Friday, marking a swift response by law enforcement. During the arrest, authorities seized a car valued at approximately Rs 8 lakh, which was allegedly used in the commission of the crime, along with two mobile phones from the accused.

Sequence of Events Leading to the Assault

The incident unfolded when the complainant, Sharath Kundar, a resident of Chitpady Bailoor in Udupi, went for dinner around 9 pm to a restaurant in Manipal, traveling in his friend's car. At the restaurant, Sharath engaged in a verbal altercation with Akshath Pai and Shashank, setting the stage for the subsequent violence.

Later, as Sharath was returning home, Akshath Pai allegedly called him and requested a meeting near PPC Cross to discuss the earlier dispute. At approximately 11:30 pm, while Sharath and his friends were standing at the designated spot, two SUVs arrived on the scene.

According to police reports, Akshath Pai, Shashank, and six to seven other individuals exited the vehicles armed with a sword-like weapon and an iron chain. The suspects then launched a brutal attack on Sharath, resulting in injuries to his right palm, fingers, and left wrist. Following the assault, the accused allegedly issued threats of dire consequences to the complainant before fleeing the area.

Aftermath and Legal Proceedings

Sharath was promptly admitted to a private hospital in Udupi for medical treatment, where he is recovering from his injuries. In response to the incident, a formal case was registered at the Udupi Town police station under multiple sections of the law, specifically Sections 189(2), 191(2), 191(3), 118(2), 109, and 351(2) read with 190 of the BNS.

The police have emphasized their commitment to ensuring justice in this case, with further investigations ongoing to uncover any additional details or accomplices. This arrest highlights the effectiveness of local law enforcement in tackling serious crimes and maintaining public safety in the region.
