In a grim discovery, the decomposed body of an unidentified man was found in a forested area near the Nethravati river in Dharmasthala, Belthangady taluk. The incident came to light on Monday when a temple information office employee reported the finding to the police.
Discovery by Temple Employee and Pilgrim
Mahesh, a 35-year-old resident of Puduvettu village in Belthangady taluk and an employee at the Dharmasthala temple information office, was approached by a pilgrim who alerted him about a decomposed body lying in the forest. The pilgrim had spotted the body while traveling along the national highway.
Acting promptly on this information, Mahesh accompanied the pilgrim to the location to verify the report. Upon reaching the spot, they discovered the body of a man, estimated to be between 40 and 50 years old, in a highly decomposed state.
Location and Police Response
The body was located in the Banglegudde forest area, specifically near the Nethravati bathing ghat, along the Ujire-Kokkada national highway in Dharmasthala village. This area is known for its dense vegetation and proximity to the river, which may have contributed to the body's advanced state of decomposition.
Following the discovery, Mahesh filed a formal complaint at the Dharmasthala police station. The police have registered an unnatural death report under section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), which deals with cases of suspicious or unnatural deaths.
