Unnao Tragedy: Father and Daughter's Suicide Sparks Abetment Case Against In-Laws
In a heartbreaking incident in Unnao, a man and his teenage daughter allegedly died by suicide after jumping in front of a goods train on the Kanpur-Lucknow rail route. Two days after the tragic event, police have registered a case of abetment of suicide against five members from the in-laws' side, including the wife.
Discovery of Bodies and Initial Findings
According to police reports, the bodies of Vikas Gupta, a 45-year-old resident of Unnao's Shuklaganj area, and his 13-year-old daughter Vedika were found on the down track near Sahajani crossing around 9 pm on Monday. The investigation was initiated after the discovery of a white car bearing a Kanpur registration number parked approximately 200 metres from the spot towards Dewarakala village.
Documents and a mobile phone recovered from the vehicle confirmed it belonged to Gupta. Based on the vehicle registration details, family members were promptly informed, leading to a comprehensive police inquiry.
Complaint and Suicide Note Trigger Case
The case was registered based on a suicide note and a formal complaint from the deceased's brother, Shivam Gupta. Police officials stated that Vikas, who worked for a private company, was allegedly distressed by his wife's WhatsApp chats with another man and ongoing harassment from her family.
Shivam has accused his sister-in-law of being in touch with a Dubai-based man and subjecting Vikas to persistent harassment. In her statement to the police, the wife claimed she had gone to her parents' place following a heated argument with her husband and in-laws.
Police Action and Ongoing Investigation
Circle Officer (City) Vineet Singh confirmed that a case has been registered against five individuals based on the complaint from the deceased's brother. "The call records and other information related to the deceased and his wife are being thoroughly reviewed. Further action will be taken following the completion of the investigation," Singh stated.
Authorities are examining all evidence, including digital communications and witness statements, to determine the circumstances that led to this tragic double suicide. The case highlights severe allegations of marital discord and family pressure, with police emphasizing a meticulous approach to ensure justice.
