UP STF Apprehends Notorious Murder-Loot Duo After Decade-Long Evasion
The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) has successfully arrested two notorious murder-and-loot accused brothers from Ayodhya on Monday, ending their nearly decade-long evasion of law enforcement. The accused, identified as Hasib (34) and Nasib (32), had been living underground since 2016 by concealing their true identities and leading ordinary working lives.
Decade of Deception: Fake Identities and Ordinary Jobs
Police officials revealed that the duo had absconded in 2016 and managed to evade capture by adopting completely fake identities and relocating to Indore, Madhya Pradesh. During this extensive period, Hasib transformed his identity to "Rehan" and worked diligently as a tailor, while Nasib assumed the name "Sameer Khan" and earned his livelihood through gig work and as a delivery executive.
"Despite being involved in heinous crimes, they maintained a low profile by engaging in daily-wage work and gig-based employment, enabling them to remain off the radar for almost 10 years," stated Additional SP of STF, Raj Kumar Mishra.
Heinous Crimes and Substantial Rewards
The brothers were wanted in a particularly brutal case registered under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, including IPC 302 (murder), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence), 394, 412, and 120-B. These charges relate to the alleged murder of a vehicle driver and the subsequent robbery of his car.
Additionally, they were wanted in Pilibhit district for multiple fraud cases. The combined charges against them led to a substantial reward of Rs 1.25 lakh each for information leading to their arrest, highlighting the seriousness of their alleged crimes.
Modus Operandi Revealed During Interrogation
According to STF officials, during interrogation, Nasib confessed to the details of their 2016 crime. The brothers had hired a Tavera vehicle from Varanasi to travel to Lucknow. During the journey, they allegedly drugged the driver, strangled him to death using a cloth, and dumped the body along a roadside in the Ayodhya region before fleeing with the vehicle.
"The accused are also linked to a multi-crore investment fraud in Pilibhit, where they allegedly lured people into investing in a fake real estate and trading firm by promising to double their money before absconding," added Additional SP Mishra.
Intelligence-Led Operation and Arrest
The breakthrough came when the STF Noida Field Unit received intelligence inputs indicating that the wanted accused were active in Madhya Pradesh. A dedicated STF team was deployed to trace the suspects, verify their assumed identities, and ultimately apprehend them in Ayodhya.
This meticulous operation demonstrates the persistence of law enforcement agencies in tracking down fugitives, even when they attempt to disappear into ordinary society through elaborate identity concealment strategies.
