Uttar Pradesh Tourist Fatally Struck by Speeding Trailer on Udaipur Highway
A tragic road accident on Monday afternoon claimed the life of a 55-year-old woman tourist from Uttar Pradesh on the Gogunda-Pindwara highway in Udaipur. The incident occurred under the jurisdiction of the Badgaon police station area, sending shockwaves through the local community and highlighting concerns about highway safety.
Victim Identified as Anita Yadav from Meerut
The deceased has been identified as Anita Yadav, a resident of Meerut in Uttar Pradesh. She was traveling with her daughter and a larger group of companions at the time of the accident. According to police reports, the group had come to Udaipur specifically for religious purposes.
Badgaon Station House Officer Kitab Devi provided details about the sequence of events: "The woman had come for darshan of the Shrinathji Temple located in Ghasiyar. Other people from the group were getting down from their taxi one by one. Anita also got down from the driver's side and had walked approximately seven steps when a speeding trailer hit her with tremendous force."
Trailer Driver Flees After Brief Stop at Accident Scene
The impact was so severe that the trailer dragged Anita's body along the highway before coming to a stop. Shockingly, the trailer driver paused at the scene for about one minute before deciding to flee, leaving the critically injured woman on the road.
Upon receiving information about the accident, the Badgaon police team immediately rushed to the location. They found Anita Yadav with fatal injuries and promptly removed her body from the roadway to prevent further traffic disruptions.
Police Investigation Underway, CCTV Footage Being Examined
The body was transported to the MB Hospital mortuary where a post-mortem examination was conducted with the consent of family members. Police have registered a formal case and launched a comprehensive investigation into the incident.
Authorities are currently examining CCTV footage from the highway to identify and trace the absconding trailer driver. The investigation aims to determine the exact speed of the vehicle, whether traffic rules were violated, and what circumstances led to this fatal collision.
