In a swift action highlighting zero tolerance for public indecency and drunk driving, the Vadodara police arrested a 26-year-old man on Tuesday, December 31, 2025. The arrest came mere hours after a video clip depicting the accused urinating in the middle of a busy road at a traffic signal went viral on social media platforms.
Viral Video Triggers Public Outrage and Police Action
The incident, captured on camera during peak traffic hours, showed the accused, identified as Ganesh Sonawane (26), getting off his motorcycle at a signal. Disregarding the presence of other stationary vehicles and commuters, he proceeded to relieve himself in full public view on the road itself. The clip further shows other motorists protesting and commenting on his shameless act, but Sonawane ignored them, got back on his bike, and rode away.
Swift Investigation Leads to Arrest from Residence
Acting on the widely circulated video, the Gorwa police station initiated an immediate investigation. An FIR was registered late on Tuesday night, following which a police team tracked down Sonawane to his residence in the Laxmipura area of the city. According to police officials, he was found to be in an inebriated state at the time of his arrest.
Police Inspector K N Lathiya of the Gorwa police station stated that the arrest was part of the city police's continuous drive to maintain law and order during the New Year's week. "A team from the Gorwa police station, under the leadership of Police Sub-Inspector M R Gangani, tracked down the accused with the help of human intelligence within hours after he was seen indulging in this disgraceful act," Lathiya explained.
Legal Charges Under Multiple Acts
The Vadodara police have booked Ganesh Sonawane under stringent legal provisions. The primary charges include:
- The Gujarat Prohibition Act: For being found in a state of intoxication.
- Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988: This section criminalizes driving or attempting to drive a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs, posing a serious risk to public safety.
This dual charging underscores the seriousness with which authorities are treating acts of public nuisance coupled with traffic violations, especially those influenced by alcohol. The case serves as a stark warning against such antisocial behavior, amplified by the power of social media in bringing offenders to quick justice.
