Security Reinforced at Jammu's Vaishno Devi Shrine After Delhi Tragedy
In response to the devastating explosion near Delhi's Red Fort that claimed at least 13 lives, authorities have implemented enhanced security measures across Jammu region, with particular focus on the revered Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine. The security upgrade comes as a preventive measure following Monday's tragic incident in the national capital.
Comprehensive Security Overhaul in Pilgrimage Areas
Security has been significantly tightened at the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine and its surrounding areas, including Katra town, which serves as the primary base camp for pilgrims undertaking the holy journey. Officials confirmed that police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel deployed in the region have received orders to conduct thorough anti-sabotage checks throughout the shrine area and along the yatra tracks originating from Katra town.
The security reinforcement is particularly crucial given that Katra town currently receives between 15,000 to 20,000 pilgrims daily, making it essential to ensure their safety and maintain the sanctity of the pilgrimage. Senior police officers have personally conducted security assessments in Katra to evaluate the implementation of these enhanced measures.
Jammu City Security Under Scanner
Simultaneously, security has been intensified in Jammu city and its adjacent areas. The winter capital city, which has experienced multiple terror attacks in previous years, is now under heightened vigilance. Shiv Kumar Sharma, Deputy Inspector General of Police (Jammu, Samba and Kathua Range), personally inspected the security arrangements in Jammu city on Monday night, hours after the Red Fort explosion.
The security apparatus in Jammu region remains on high alert as search operations continue across various parts of the Pir Panjal and Chenab Valley regions. These operations form part of the ongoing campaign to dismantle terror networks operating in Jammu. As part of this drive, authorities are thoroughly examining the backgrounds of suspected individuals.
Recent Actions Against Terror Links
In a related development, two Special Police Officers (SPOs) were dismissed from service in Kathua district on Sunday due to their alleged connections with terrorist activities. The dismissed officers have been identified as Abdul Latief and Mohammad Abbas. According to sources, Latief was already incarcerated in Doda district jail for allegedly providing logistical support to terrorists.
Similarly, Abbas had multiple First Information Reports (FIRs) registered against him for assisting terrorist operations. These dismissals underscore the administration's zero-tolerance policy toward any security personnel involved with anti-national elements.
