Varanasi Junction Railway Station Unveils Modern CCTV Control Room

A new state-of-the-art CCTV control room was officially inaugurated at Varanasi Junction Railway Station on Friday, marking a significant upgrade in security infrastructure. The inauguration ceremony was conducted by Railway Protection Force (RPF) woman constable Shamika, with Sunil Kumar Verma, Divisional Railway Manager of Northern Railway's Lucknow Division, in attendance.

Enhanced Surveillance Capabilities

The newly inaugurated control room is equipped with 12 large screens measuring 55 inches each, a substantial improvement from the previous setup that featured only 9 screens of 43 inches. This expansion allows for more comprehensive monitoring and better visual clarity across the station premises.

Furthermore, the surveillance system now receives live feed from a total of 186 cameras, which includes:

  • 41 PTZ (Pan-Tilt-Zoom) cameras
  • 138 bullet cameras
  • 7 dome cameras

This represents a significant increase from the earlier configuration, which utilized feed from 122 cameras comprising 28 PTZ, 101 bullet, and 7 dome cameras.

Improved Safety and Security Measures

The enhanced camera network and screen capacity enable effective surveillance of all platforms up to their extreme ends, as well as comprehensive coverage of the yard area. This upgrade strengthens safety and security arrangements for passengers, providing greater peace of mind for travelers using one of India's busiest railway stations.

Technological Advancements

The CCTV system has undergone a crucial technological transformation. Previously operating on an NVR-based system, it is now connected to a server-based infrastructure. This upgrade offers several benefits:

  1. More convenient camera management and monitoring
  2. Immediate attention to any technical failures
  3. Automatic backup of recordings that can be easily recovered when required

The modernization of Varanasi Junction's surveillance system represents a proactive approach to passenger safety and demonstrates the railway administration's commitment to leveraging technology for enhanced security measures. This development is particularly significant given Varanasi's status as a major pilgrimage and tourist destination, where railway stations experience high passenger volumes throughout the year.
