Major Cockfighting Operation Busted by Vizag Police in Weekend Raid
In a significant crackdown on illegal animal fighting and gambling activities, the Visakhapatnam City Police conducted a targeted raid on Sunday, successfully dismantling a large-scale cockfighting operation on the outskirts of Padmanabham. The operation resulted in the apprehension of more than 70 individuals who were actively participating in the prohibited blood sport.
Coordinated Police Action Leads to Multiple Arrests
Acting on specific and credible intelligence regarding organized cockfighting and associated betting operations, the City Task Force Police joined forces with the Padmanabham police station personnel to execute a well-planned surprise raid. The location near Royal Gardens, which had become a hotspot for these illicit weekend activities, was swiftly surrounded as law enforcement moved in to detain all participants.
The police successfully captured the primary organizers of the event along with numerous punters who had gathered to place bets on the fights. This coordinated effort highlights the department's commitment to eradicating such unlawful gatherings that have been reported to occur regularly on the city's periphery.
Substantial Seizures of Cash, Animals, and Vehicles
The raid yielded considerable confiscations, underscoring the scale of the illegal operation. Law enforcement officials seized an impressive ₹7.5 lakh in cash that was being used for gambling transactions during the event. Additionally, authorities took possession of eight fighting roosters that were intended for use in the cruel sport.
The police also impounded more than ten motorcycles and two cars belonging to the attendees, further disrupting the logistical support for such activities. These seizures are expected to play a crucial role in the ongoing investigation and possible prosecution of those involved.
Ongoing Investigations and Legal Proceedings
Following the raid, the Padmanabham police have registered a formal case against all the arrested individuals. Investigations are currently underway to uncover the full extent of the network behind these recurring cockfighting events. Preliminary findings suggest that certain groups have been systematically organizing these gambling-fueled animal fights on weekends over the past several weeks, exploiting remote locations to avoid detection.
Police authorities have emphasized that such activities not only violate animal cruelty laws but also promote illegal betting and public disorder. The crackdown serves as a stern warning to others involved in similar operations across the region.
