Woman Dies by Suicide in Front of Family in Chikkamagaluru River Tragedy
A 34-year-old woman died by suicide by jumping into a river in front of her husband and two young children in Chikkamagaluru's Narasimharaja Pura taluk on Monday evening, in a heartbreaking incident that has shocked the local community.
Details of the Deceased and Incident
The deceased has been identified as Ranya, a resident of Muttinakoppa in NR Pura taluk. According to police reports, she jumped off a bridge built over the Tunga River in Muduba, an area bordering NR Pura and Thirthahalli taluk.
Ranya, who worked as a nurse at a private hospital in Shivamogga, had been married to Eldho, a farmer, for 13 years. The couple had two children: a 10-year-old son and a six-year-old daughter.
Background of Marital Discord
Based on a complaint lodged by Ranya's father, the couple had not been on good terms for several years. Ranya had been staying at her parental house in Shivamogga but had been visiting and staying at her husband's house for the last five months prior to the incident.
On the day of the tragedy, Ranya left her house in Muttinakoppa on a two-wheeler, while her husband and children followed her in another vehicle. She stopped her vehicle near the bridge and jumped into the river right in front of her family.
Police Statement and Investigation
Sub-Inspector Nuthan, who is investigating the case, stated, "Before Eldho and children could reach the spot, she jumped." The police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the suicide, with initial reports pointing to ongoing marital issues as a contributing factor.
This tragic event highlights the severe emotional distress that can lead to such desperate actions, particularly when witnessed by immediate family members, including young children.
