62-Year-Old Woman Found Dead in Suspected Suicide at Thiruvananthapuram Residence

In a tragic incident, the charred body of a 62-year-old woman was discovered in the compound of her house at Balarampuram in Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday night. The deceased has been identified as Shobana, a resident of the area.

Neighbors Alert Authorities After Noticing Fire

According to official reports, the incident unfolded around 10 PM when neighbors observed a fire blazing in Shobana's backyard. Acting swiftly, the neighbors managed to douse the flames and attempted to alert Shobana inside her home. However, she was nowhere to be found within the premises.

The concerned neighbors then contacted Shobana's relatives, who were away attending a marriage function at the time. During a subsequent search conducted by locals, Shobana's body was found in a severely burnt condition behind her house.

Police and Forensic Teams Conduct Detailed Inspection

Police and forensic teams promptly arrived at the scene and conducted a thorough inspection. The body was taken into police custody for further examination. Preliminary investigations by the Balarampuram police suggest that this is a case of suspected suicide.

Police sources indicated that the flames had spread to clothes hung out to dry and firewood stored in the area, complicating the initial assessment. The body has been shifted to the Government Medical College Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram for a postmortem examination and will be handed over to the family thereafter.

Family Issues Suspected as Motive, Investigation Ongoing

As per the preliminary investigation, police suspect that Shobana may have taken the extreme step due to a family-related issue. However, officials have emphasized that forensic findings will be crucial to arrive at a clear and definitive conclusion.

"We need a detailed investigation before reaching any concrete conclusion," a police source stated, highlighting the complexity of the case.

A case has been registered under the provisions of unnatural deaths, and further investigation is currently underway. Shobana is survived by her husband, Sudhakaran, as the community grapples with the shocking loss.
