Woman Axes 3-Year-Old Stepdaughter to Death in Gorakhpur Village
In a shocking incident in Gorakhpur, a 35-year-old woman allegedly hacked her three-year-old stepdaughter to death with an axe late Tuesday night. The brutal crime occurred in Bijhara village under the Pipraich police station limits, sending shockwaves through the local community.

The accused, identified as Pooja, had married Triveni Maurya, a 40-year-old man, just one month ago. Maurya's first wife, Laxmi, passed away two years ago, leaving behind their young daughter, Aditi, who was three years old at the time of the attack.
According to police reports, Maurya stepped out of their house around 11 pm. In his absence, Pooja allegedly picked up the sleeping child, threw her on the ground, and attacked her with an axe, severing her neck. The child died instantly at the scene.
Villagers' Response and Arrest
Hearing the commotion and screams, villagers quickly gathered at the location. As Pooja attempted to flee the scene, she was chased for nearly a kilometre by the enraged locals. After a brief pursuit, she was caught, tied up, and handed over to the police.
During questioning, the accused reportedly stated that she was upset because her husband "loved his daughter more" and she wanted to "teach him a lesson." This revelation has highlighted underlying issues of jealousy and domestic conflict in the household.

Pipraich Station House Officer Atul Kumar Srivastava confirmed that the accused has been arrested and the weapon used in the crime has been recovered. The body of the young victim was sent for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death and gather further forensic evidence.
