NEW DELHI: A 38-year-old woman and her 13-year-old son were found brutally murdered with multiple stab wounds and their throats slit at their residence in southeast Delhi's Govindpuri early Thursday morning. The victims were identified as Sharda Sahu, a homemaker, and her son Kushal Sahu, a Class VII student.
Family Alleges Theft of Valuables
Family members claimed that valuables worth approximately Rs 50 lakh were missing from the house, including a recent payout of Rs 8-10 lakh from a local chit fund scheme. The stolen items included jewellery worn by the woman, such as bangles, earrings, and a chain, as well as other valuables. The locks of an almirah were found broken.
Domestic Help Missing
The family has alleged that their domestic help has been missing since the incident. Yash Sahu, the nephew of the deceased, stated, "She usually arrives by 7 am, but police are trying to contact her today." Police are attempting to trace the help as part of their investigation.
Police Investigation Underway
Sharda's husband, Vishnu Sahu, a fruit and vegetable trader, told police that he found the front door latched from the outside when he returned home around 12:30 am. He discovered the bodies of his wife and son lying in the kitchen. Police received a PCR call at 1:11 am reporting the crime.
Family members noted that Vishnu usually returns late, which the killer might have been aware of. Joint CP (southern range) Vijay Kumar stated, "The family has claimed a large amount was robbed. We are investigating that angle, but since a lot of valuables were left behind, other angles are appearing more important for now."
Suspect May Have Had Accomplice
Police suspect the killer may have had an accomplice given the brutality of the crime. The officer added that there was no CCTV coverage in the lane leading to the house, but footage from a nearby area is being analysed. A case has been registered under Sections 103 (murder) and 309 (robbery) of the BNS.
Authorities are also exploring other motives, as some valuables were left untouched, suggesting the crime may not have been solely for robbery. The investigation is ongoing.
