Mistaken Identity Kidnapping in Palanpur Leaves Youth Stabbed and Abandoned
In a shocking incident that unfolded in broad daylight, a 19-year-old youth became the victim of a dramatic kidnapping case based on mistaken identity in Palanpur. The young man was forcibly abducted, only to be brutally stabbed and callously dumped on the roadside when his captors realized they had targeted the wrong individual.
The Terrifying Abduction on the Highway
The harrowing ordeal began on April 12 around 1:30 pm when Ashwin Thakor, a resident of Ratanpura village in Kankrej taluka, was traveling from Shihori to Patan with his cousin in a private vehicle. As their car proceeded along the highway between Vayad and Melusan villages, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Saraswati police station, another vehicle suddenly overtook them and forced them to make an abrupt stop.
Two men with their faces concealed by handkerchiegs emerged from the other car, brandishing a knife in a threatening manner. Without hesitation, they dragged Ashwin from his vehicle and into theirs, leaving his cousin behind in a state of shock and confusion. The kidnappers then sped away from the scene, initiating a terrifying sequence of events.
The Critical Mistake and Violent Aftermath
During the abduction, the kidnappers reportedly took a photograph of Ashwin and transmitted it to an associate, confidently claiming that their intended target was now in their custody. However, the response they received was not what they anticipated. The associate quickly informed them that they had captured the wrong person, a realization that came too late to prevent violence.
By the time the error was acknowledged, Ashwin had already been subjected to physical assault and stabbed in the stomach. Recognizing their grave blunder, the attackers abandoned the injured teenager on the roadside near Dudharamapura and fled the area to avoid detection. The victim was subsequently rushed to Dharpur Civil Hospital, where he received urgent medical treatment for his stab wounds and other injuries sustained during the ordeal.
Police Investigation and Legal Proceedings
Despite the victim and his family choosing not to file a formal complaint, the Saraswati police have taken proactive measures by registering a case of kidnapping and assault against two unidentified individuals. Law enforcement authorities are treating this incident as a cognizable offense, which allows them to initiate an investigation without requiring a formal complaint from the victim.
The police have launched a comprehensive probe to identify and apprehend the perpetrators, examining all available evidence and pursuing leads that might shed light on the motives behind this violent mistaken identity kidnapping. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to bring those responsible to justice and prevent similar incidents in the future.
