Show-Cause Notices Issued to 10 BLOs in Yamunanagar
Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) and Electoral Registration Officer of Yamunanagar Assembly constituency, Naveen Ahuja, has issued show-cause notices to 10 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) for negligence in the digitisation of enumeration forms. The action follows an inspection that revealed unsatisfactory progress in the digitisation work, which is being carried out as per the instructions of the Election Commission of India.
Digitisation Work Found Below 20%
Ahuja stated that on July 6, he held a meeting with supervisors and Assistant/Additional Electoral Registration Officers to review the digitisation work. During the meeting, it was found that the digitisation work of BLOs Rajiv Khurana, Mandeep Singh, Darshan Singh, Rajiv Gaba, Parveen Kumar, Jagdeep, Shirish, Manjeet Kaur, Ravi, and Neelam in the Yamunanagar Assembly constituency was less than 20 percent and unsatisfactory. The concerned supervisors had repeatedly instructed these BLOs over the telephone to prioritise the task, but they failed to comply.
Serious Negligence and Disregard for ECI Orders
Ahuja said, "It appears that these BLOs did not take any interest in digitising the enumeration forms, which indicates serious negligence on their part and disregard for the orders of the Election Commission of India." He directed all supervisors and concerned Assistant/Additional Electoral Registration Officers to ensure that the digitisation work is completed on time. The show-cause notices require the BLOs to explain their negligence within a specified period, failing which further disciplinary action may be taken.
Context of the Digitisation Drive
The digitisation of enumeration forms is part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, aimed at updating voter details and ensuring accuracy. The Election Commission of India has mandated the collection and digitisation of these forms by BLOs across the country. In Yamunanagar, the slow progress by these 10 BLOs has prompted the administration to take strict action to expedite the process and ensure compliance with ECI directives.
