Indian Army-Led Joint Operation Destroys 10 Illegal Bunkers in Manipur
In a significant counter-insurgency action, security forces under the leadership of the Indian Army have successfully destroyed 10 illegal bunkers and firing positions in Manipur's Jalenbung Hills and Thoyee Heights. Officials confirmed the operation on Thursday, highlighting its role in ongoing efforts to maintain security in the region.
Coordinated Security Effort
The joint security teams, which included the Indian Army's Red Shield Division, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), and Manipur Police, executed area domination operations to dismantle multiple hostile structures. This coordinated approach ensured a comprehensive sweep of the targeted zones, preventing any potential threats from regrouping.
Targeted Locations and Operations
As part of continuous operations along the Imphal-Dimapur National Highway-2, the security forces focused on Jalenbung Hills and Thoyee Heights to thwart attempts at re-establishing militant infrastructure. Two joint columns conducted simultaneous patrols on either side of the national highway, enhancing the effectiveness of the exercise.
At Jalenbung Hills, a thorough security sweep led to the identification and subsequent destruction of five bunkers that had been previously dismantled but were found to have been rebuilt. Similarly, operations at Thoyee Heights and the adjoining Mahadev Hills resulted in the destruction of another five re-built bunkers, showcasing the persistent vigilance of the forces.
Ongoing Security Measures
Meanwhile, a statement from Manipur police emphasized that search operations and area domination exercises are continuing in fringe and vulnerable areas across multiple districts. Currently, over 110 nakas and checkpoints are active across hill and valley districts, underscoring the extensive security network in place.
This recent action follows earlier successes, such as the destruction of 21 illegal bunkers in Ukhrul district, demonstrating a sustained commitment to counter-insurgency efforts in Manipur. The operations aim to ensure stability and prevent any resurgence of militant activities in the region.
