A 16-year-old girl was rescued by police and fire and emergency officials in Bengaluru on Thursday morning after she attempted to jump from the terrace of a residential building in Ramamurthynagar. The incident occurred around 10:20 am when the girl climbed to the terrace on the fifth floor of her residential complex on Varanasi Main Road near Aneppa Circle. She climbed over the safety railing and stated her intention to end her life by jumping.
Immediate Response by Authorities
Local residents promptly alerted the helpline 112. The Ramamurthynagar police were notified and quickly arrived at the scene, along with fire and emergency officials. The authorities initially tried to convince the girl to step back onto the terrace, assuring her that they would help resolve her issues. However, she did not comply.
Successful Rescue Operation
A policeman in plainclothes managed to climb onto the terrace and grab her by the hand. Fire officials and other policemen then pulled her back to safety around 11:30 am. The entire operation lasted over an hour.
Background of the Incident
According to a senior police officer, the girl was not on good terms with her parents, who opposed her relationship. This conflict led her to take the extreme step. The girl has been provided with counseling and support.
