Congress Workers Demand Disciplinary Action Amid Rajya Sabha Victory Celebrations
Congress workers and leaders in Haryana celebrated the victory of Rajya Sabha candidate Karamvir Boudh on Tuesday, marking a significant political win for the party. Supporters distributed sweets and danced to drum beats in Karnal, hailing the success of the SC leader from a humble background. However, the jubilation was tempered by serious allegations of cross-voting during the election, with party workers demanding strict disciplinary action against those involved.
Demands for Accountability and Party Response
During the celebrations, Congress workers raised their concerns directly in front of state president Rao Narendra Singh, who visited Karnal city on Tuesday afternoon. They called for firm measures against individuals who allegedly betrayed the party's mandate by engaging in cross-voting. In response, Singh asserted that the party would take decisive action against anyone found acting against its interests. "Whosoever has acted against the party will face strict consequences," he told media persons, emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy towards internal dissent.
Allegations Against BJP and Leadership Credits
Singh also accused the ruling BJP of attempting to influence the Rajya Sabha election through unethical means, including money, intimidation, and pressure tactics. He claimed that despite these efforts, the BJP's objectives were not fulfilled. Additionally, he credited the party's national leadership, particularly president Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, for selecting a candidate from a modest background, highlighting this as a strategic move that resonated with voters.
Concerns Over Election Process and Broader Implications
District Congress president (Urban) Parag Gaba described the outcome as a "victory of democracy" but expressed worries over alleged delays in vote counting and misuse of power during the election. Other leaders, such as Rajesh Chaudhary, echoed the call for accountability, urging that those responsible for cross-voting be held to account. Several party workers emphasized that regardless of their stature, leaders found guilty of betraying the party should face severe disciplinary actions, including potential expulsion, to maintain party integrity and discipline.
