CPI Leader Accuses AIADMK's EPS of Knowing He Can't Return as Chief Minister
In a sharp political critique, senior Communist Party of India (CPI) leader R Mutharasan declared on Thursday that AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami has come to understand that he cannot become the chief minister of Tamil Nadu again. Mutharasan made these remarks while actively campaigning for the DMK candidate and minister K N Nehru in the Woraiyur area of Trichy West constituency.
Mutharasan Alleges Personal Motives Behind BJP Alliance
During his campaign speech, Mutharasan asserted that Palaniswami has sided with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) purely for his own personal gain, rather than for the welfare of Tamil Nadu. He emphasized that this alliance is detrimental to the state's interests, painting a vivid picture of the AIADMK leader's predicament.
"EPS has no intent of becoming a chief minister. He is locked in the BJP alliance like a fly trapped in a spider web," Mutharasan stated, drawing a powerful analogy to illustrate Palaniswami's perceived helplessness within the political partnership. The former state secretary of the CPI did not mince words, directly questioning Palaniswami's political ambitions and strategies.
Criticism of Delimitation Bill and Parliamentary Session Timing
Mutharasan further criticized the AIADMK's stance on the delimitation bill, highlighting a key point of contention. "While all parties in the DMK alliance oppose the delimitation bill to protect the rights of Tamil Nadu, Edappadi is refusing to accept the ill effects of the bill," he explained. This bill, which involves redrawing electoral boundaries, has sparked significant debate, with the DMK-led alliance arguing it could undermine the state's representation and rights.
Adding to his critique, Mutharasan questioned the necessity of convening a Parliament session to table the delimitation bill at this particular juncture. He pointed out that Tamil Nadu and West Bengal are currently in election mode, suggesting that such a move is ill-timed and could disrupt the electoral process. This timing, according to Mutharasan, raises concerns about the bill's implementation and its potential impact on ongoing political activities in these states.
The CPI leader's comments come amid heightened political campaigning in Trichy, where the DMK is seeking to consolidate its support. Mutharasan's statements are seen as part of a broader effort to undermine the AIADMK-BJP alliance and bolster the DMK's position by framing Palaniswami as a leader who has compromised Tamil Nadu's interests for personal benefit.
