The Delhi government, under the directives of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, ramped up its enforcement drive on Sunday against illegal constructions, encroachments, and building safety violations across the capital. This intensified campaign aims to ensure public safety and prevent accidents stemming from unauthorized and unsafe structures.
Targeted Areas and Actions
Enforcement agencies conducted inspections and took action in the Khanpur and Sainik Farm areas of South Delhi. Structures found violating approved building plans and prescribed regulations were specifically targeted. Officials examined multiple sites during the drive and initiated proceedings where violations were identified.
Government's Zero-Tolerance Stance
CM Rekha Gupta reiterated the government's unwavering commitment to safety. She stated, "The Delhi government is prioritizing citizen safety above all else. Our policy is crystal clear: violations of the ground-plus-five limit and other construction norms will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Any individual, builder, or institution that flouts the rules will face strict legal action. No one will be allowed to endanger lives."
Long-Term Reforms Under Consideration
The Chief Minister also revealed that the government is exploring long-term structural reforms. These include the possibility of introducing a third-party insurance mechanism for public-use buildings, guest houses, nursing homes, and other institutions. This measure aims to strengthen compliance with safety standards and provide a safety net for the public.
Malviya Nagar MLA and Delhi Jal Board Vice Chairman Satish Upadhyay emphasized, "Safeguarding Delhi's future remains a top priority for the government. Any compromise with people's lives will not be tolerated at any cost."

The government has indicated that this enforcement drive will continue across Delhi in the coming weeks, targeting all areas where building by-laws, fire safety norms, or approved construction standards are violated.
