The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has alleged that self-styled godman Ashok Kharat from Nashik posed as an incarnation of Lord Shiva and operated an extortion racket. The agency claimed that Kharat exploited his followers' faith for financial gain.
Massive Extortion Amount
In one case alone, a complainant spent nearly Rs 5.62 crore at Kharat’s behest. The money was used to purchase a luxury Mercedes car, fund foreign trips, pay for medical treatment in the United States, and develop farmhouse properties.
Modus Operandi
The ED investigation revealed that Kharat used his divine persona to manipulate devotees. He allegedly convinced them that they were chosen for special blessings, demanding large sums of money in return. Those who resisted were threatened with divine curses or harm.
