India Weather Update: South, Northeast Brace for Rain; North Faces Heatwave
India Weather: South, Northeast Rain; North Heatwave

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh weather forecast indicating contrasting conditions across the country. While southern and northeastern states are expected to receive substantial rainfall, northern regions including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana will continue to experience intense heatwave conditions.

Heavy Rain Alert for South India

Kerala, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu are likely to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next few days. The IMD has predicted isolated extremely heavy falls in these states, urging residents to remain cautious. The southwest monsoon has already set in over Kerala, advancing rapidly into neighboring regions. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea along the west coast due to rough conditions.

Northeast India to Receive Widespread Showers

The northeastern states, including Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and Arunachal Pradesh, are also bracing for widespread rainfall. The IMD has warned of possible flooding and landslides in vulnerable areas. Residents are advised to stay updated with local warnings.

Heatwave Persists in North India

In contrast, northern India continues to reel under a severe heatwave. Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 44 degrees Celsius, while parts of Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh saw mercury levels soaring above 45 degrees. The IMD has predicted no immediate relief, with heatwave conditions likely to persist for at least another week.

Advice for Residents

  • Avoid outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours.
  • Stay hydrated and wear light clothing.
  • Keep a watch on vulnerable individuals such as the elderly and children.

The weather office has also advised farmers in rain-affected areas to plan their agricultural activities accordingly. With the monsoon advancing, the overall rainfall deficit is expected to reduce gradually. The IMD continues to monitor the situation and will issue updates as necessary.
