CPI(M) leader M A Baby has urged Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge to either provide evidence or retract his allegation that the CPI(M) had a secret deal with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Baby warned that such unsubstantiated claims could undermine the unity of the opposition I.N.D.I.A. bloc.
Background of the Allegation
Speaking to reporters in New Delhi, Baby recalled that the I.N.D.I.A. bloc was formed as a broad platform to politically counter the BJP. He stressed that baseless accusations against a key ally like the CPI(M) could weaken the coalition's collective fight against the ruling party. The Congress chief had earlier hinted at a possible understanding between the CPI(M) and the BJP in certain states, without providing specific evidence.
Baby's Demand for Clarity
"Kharge ji must clear the air. If he has proof, he should present it. Otherwise, he should withdraw the statement," Baby said. He emphasized that the CPI(M) remains committed to the opposition alliance and has no secret dealings with the BJP. The CPI(M) leader also pointed out that his party has consistently opposed the BJP's policies at the national and state levels.
Impact on Opposition Unity
Political analysts believe that such internal disputes could hamper the opposition's efforts to present a united front ahead of the next general elections. The I.N.D.I.A. bloc, which includes several regional parties, has been working to consolidate anti-BJP votes.
