Maharashtra Minority Commission Exposes Fake Narratives in Amravati Abuse Case

A special inquiry committee, acting on the directives of Maharashtra State Minority Commission chairman Pyare Khan, has conducted a thorough investigation into a sexual abuse case reported from Amravati. The panel submitted its preliminary findings after visiting Paratwada, Achalpur, and Amravati city on Thursday.

Committee Findings Reveal Targeted Victims

Pyare Khan informed TOI that the committee's on-ground assessment and police investigations have clearly established that all victims identified so far are Muslim girls. According to Khan, this discovery exposes propaganda and fake narratives being spread by vested interests. He emphasized that there appears to be a deliberate attempt to disturb communal harmony and create tensions between communities in Maharashtra. Khan stated that this ploy has been laid bare through the findings of both the police and the inquiry committee.

Comprehensive On-Ground Assessment Conducted

The inquiry committee comprised several key officials:

  • Kirty Sadane, social worker from the District Child Protection Unit in Amravati

During their visit, the committee conducted a comprehensive on-ground assessment of the case. They met with the district collector of Amravati to review the administrative response and held detailed discussions with the superintendent of police for Amravati. The panel also obtained crucial inputs from the assistant superintendent of police in Paratwada regarding the crime scene and progress of the investigation. Coordination was established with multiple departments to verify all aspects of the case thoroughly.

Investigation Challenges and Community Impact

The committee noted that preliminary information regarding the survivors has been gathered. However, members revealed that none of the victims have come forward to record their statements, which remains a major challenge in the investigation. The report pointed out that the incident has created an atmosphere of unease among local residents, making it crucial for the administration to maintain law and order and prevent the spread of rumors and misinformation, especially given the sensitive nature of the case.

Committee Recommendations for Sensitive Handling

The committee has directed the police administration to organize peace committee meetings and handle the case with utmost sensitivity and restraint. They have emphasized the need to increase public awareness and communication to build trust among citizens. The panel has also stressed the importance of strictly curbing rumors at the local level to prevent further escalation of tensions.

Observing that the reluctance of victims to come forward represents the biggest hurdle in the investigation, committee members underlined the importance of maintaining confidentiality and handling the matter carefully to avoid further social tension. They stated that information gathering is still underway, and efforts will be made to counsel the victims and encourage them to record their statements while ensuring all necessary steps are taken to maintain law and order.

Comprehensive Final Report in Preparation

A comprehensive final report will be submitted to Pyare Khan, including complete details of the case, the offences registered by police, profiles of the accused, and an overall assessment of the law and order situation. The committee's work represents a significant step toward addressing the sensitive issues surrounding this case while maintaining communal harmony in Maharashtra.
